Castleford Tigers demonstrated their tough side to grind out an 11-6 victory over Wakefield Trinity to move up to third in the Betfred Super League table.
With both sides scoring one try, the outcome was determined by the boot of England scrum-half Luke Gale, who kicked two late penalties to add to a first-half drop goal.
Mike McMeeken crossed over for the opening try on 16 minutes when he took a short pass from Ben Roberts, who reverted to half-back alongside Gale with Jake Trueman coming in at full-back.
Winger Ben Jones-Bishop and prop David Fifita both went close for Wakefield before Gale’s drop goal nudged the visitors’ lead to 7-0 ahead at the break.
Jones-Bishop scored his fourth successive try against the Tigers, with Liam Finn converting to narrow Castleford’s lead to one point before Gale kicked two goals to earn their fifth consecutive win.
