Four Games to Watch in Challenge Cup second round

Four Games to Watch in Challenge Cup second round

Featherstone Lions v Thatto Heath Crusaders - Saturday, 2pm

Streamed live on the BBC Sport website, NCL pair Featherstone Lions and Thatto Heath Crusaders take centre stage on Saturday.

The Heath are reigning NCL champions after a stirring Grand Final performance against Siddal back in October.

They edged out NCL Division 2 side Saddleworth Rangers 22-12 in round one.

Meanwhile, the Lions suffered a difficult 2017, narrowly avoiding relegation from Division 1, but they showed their class in round one, overcoming relegated Premier Division outfit Skirlaugh 34-14 to seal their place in round two.

Hunslet Club Parkside v Wath Brow Hornets - Saturday, 2pm

A high-class fixture in prospect as NCL Premier Division big guns Wath Brow travel to face Paul McShane's Hunslet.

Castleford Tigers star McShane has helped the Leeds side to three-successive promotions, and they will be taking their place in the NCL's top tier this year.

They will come into the game with confidence having swept through Division 1 in 2017, losing just once all season, while conceding just 238 points in 20 league games.

They also claimed the Challenge Trophy title in September with an impressive 22-0 win over Wigan St Pats.

But Cumbrians Wath Brow enjoyed a fine 2017 themselves as they finished third in the Premier Division - winning 15 of their 22 league games during the year.

This weekend could be seen as arguably Hunslet's biggest test in a number of years.

Batley Boys v Royal Air Force - Saturday, 2pm

Yorkshire Men's League outfit Batley Boys were the headline-makers in round one as they stunned NCL Premier Division Underbank Rangers 17-16 in golden-point extra-time away from home.

The West Yorkshire side scored 512 points and conceded just 150 as they won all 16 of their league games last year, but the RAF travel to Halifax Road on the back of a steely 12-4 win over Distington in round one and will be battle-hardened from that hard-fought home win.

Batley Boys are making their first appearance in the Challenge Cup - can the eighth-tier side make it to the third round draw?

University of Hull v Myton Warriors - Saturday, 2:30pm

Quite possibly the closest derby match in Rugby League - Myton Warriors make the short hop 'over the fence' - the sides play on the same park - to visit the University of Hull on Saturday.

The University of Hull overcame a tough Hensingham side 24-10 on home turf in round one, but a sterner test is in store as they welcome Myton - who beat Leigh Miners Rangers 22-18 in round one - this weekend.

This local derby is not to be missed!
