Northumbria A returned to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon with a convincing 38-16 home victory over Liverpool John Moores.
Prop Toby Williams bagged a brace for the hosts to help them on their way to victory, who last week went down to their first defeat of the season, losing 30-18 away at Edge Hill.
Liverpool, who fielded five debutants, had scores through Tom Dempsey, along with Sam Wilkes and Tom Dewhurst who both crossed on their first appearances, went down to their second defeat in a row after a close fought 32-24 loss against Manchester Met last week.
Early scores for Williams and Johnny Binns put Northumbria ahead after 12 minutes, with centre Jack Redfern bagging a third midway through the first-half.
Visitors Liverpool hit back with a score before the break but half-back Rob Denton crossed for the hosts after the break to take the game beyond the away side.
John Moores hit back soon after but two quick scores courtesy of Gregg Thompson and Williams' second sealed their fifth win of the season.
Northumbria conceded another consolation five minutes from try, but centre Adam Todhunter's try in the final minute for the home team was the icing on the cake, with the side remaining top of the BUCS Northern 1A Division on points difference.
Speaking following the win, Northumbria head coach Adam Houston said: "It was by far one of our best performances of the season. I'm really proud of how the lads reacted after last weeks loss, we showed a lot of grit and determination.
"Probably the most pleasing aspect was the fact the players put right all the things we had spoke about in the week and while it wasn't perfect it was a huge improvement."
