Cunningham to link up with father Keiron during Leigh loan

St Helens are reuniting teenage forward Jonah Cunningham with his father Keiron at Leigh Centurions next season.

The 19-year-old Cunningham, who had a spell on dual registration with Sheffield Eagles in 2017, has signed a new contract with his home-town club but will spend the 2018 season on loan to the Centurions, where his father is now head of rugby after being sacked as St Helens coach last April.

Full-back Ricky Bailey, 20, who has made two Betfred Super League appearances for Saints, will join Cunningham at Leigh Sports Village for the 2018 Championship campaign.

Leigh coach Neil Jukes said: "Ricky and Jonah are two young and talented individuals with real ambition to go on and achieve big things in the game.

"Both have shown real promise in their development through the Saints system and are at the stage in their careers where they are both ready to push to play first-team football on a regular basis."

Bailey has also extended his contract with St Helens, along with other youngsters Jake Spedding, Liam Cooper, Ben Morris and Aaron Smith.
