In the 10th season of Masters Rugby League in UK, the Masters Steering Group decided to acknowledge those who are foremost in fully embracing Masters Rugby League and the spirit in which it is played.
With this decision, the “Spirit of Masters” award was born. The first awards were presented at the NW Masters Festival at Crosfields by Masters Rugby League Chairman, John Wroe.
The first recipient was Vic Logan from Barrow Masters. Vic, who took up playing Masters at the age of 67 has played not only for Barrow but a host of other teams too as he travels to games and festivals.
Vic was selected for Great Britain Master in 2016 and has the Heritage number 117. Vic, now a Green short player, played all through the Crosfields festival last Saturday.
The second recipient of the Spirit of Masters award was John Connell of Ossett Masters. John also plays regularly for Siddal Masters and has played for more Masters teams then anyone!
John travels almost every weekend to play Masters – somewhere! – and has played in over 40 games so far this year. He was on the very first Great Britain Masters tour to Australia in 2009 and has heritage number 22.
John endlessly promotes Masters Rugby League whilst always playing and encouraging others to play in the true Spirit of Masters!
Congratulations to both Vic and John!
