Widnes earn first Qualifiers win

Halifax RLFC 12-36 Widnes Vikings

Winger Corey Thompson scored two second-half tries as Widnes Vikings defeated Halifax RLFC 36-12 to put a first win towards their bid for Betfred Super League survival.

Thompson's double came as part of the Vikings' seven-try victory over their Kingstone Press Championship hosts, who have now lost both Qualifiers Super 8s fixtures.

Lloyd White scored a try and kicked four goals while Chris Bridge, Charly Runciman, Joe Mellor and Danny Craven also crossed for the Vikings.

Ben Heaton registered two tries for Halifax, who narrowly lost to Hull KR last week, with Steve Tyrer and Scott Murrell kicked goals.
